On Friday May 2nd, from 6-9pm, we showed Outgrow the System at the Mount Baker Community Club. The film explores how we can create an economy that works for people and the planet—not for corporate profits at the expense of communities and ecologies.
With new ideas and grassroots movements challenging old assumptions, they’re moving us toward a just, sustainable future. This film envisions a world where we participate in bold, transformative alternatives.
The evening included a potluck spread. 170 people attended bringing such delicious food that the event was a feast for both the body and soul.
After the film, we had a panel discussion hosted by Ryan from 350 Seattle which included Victor Rodriguez of alterNative Consulting, Dane Degri of ecoTHRIVE, Derek Hoshiko of Kicking Gas and Salish Sea Cooperative Finance, and Aloysious of The Heron’s Nest. Adasha Turner of Black Seed AgroEcology and Modest Family Solutions was unable to attend the event and was greatly missed.
The evening ended with the opportunity to engage with the more than 20 groups that were there to share information, thus helping connect with others, learn about actionable next steps, and find ways to plug into the movement.
Feedback at the event was that it was inspiring to share delicious food and radical ideas (that really aren’t radical) in a space for connection, collaboration, and action.
