Rebels, family and friends gathered at Genessee Park with some food and a picnic blanket, joining a growing number of people organizing to replace the Blue Angels with Seattle celebrations that honor the people and waterways of Seattle. With music, chants and the spoken word, we voiced our opposition to this to this highly carbon intensive display of military might at a time of climate and ecological breakdown.
We were joined by WA Physicians for Social Responsibility who handed out earplugs to ticket holders, and also also showed folks a way to download an app that measures sound decibels. This event is part of a years long effort to make clear to the City of Seattle and the Seafair Board that we want to say goodby to the polluting and stress inducing Blue Angels. This campaign is a joint venture of XR Seattle, the 350 Seattle Antimilitarism Coalition, Veterans For Peace, ILPS, Democratic Socialists of America and local residents.
